Dante's Inferno 3ds max, Digital Fusion, mental ray, Photoshop, ZBrush March 2010
This is a still from the 30 second commercial for Dante's Inferno (video game) that was put together for the Superbowl by Blur Studio. Sadly this particular shot was only 40 frames long, but at least it makes a good still.
The commercial basically used two hell environments - I modeled and textured this one and did the composting, lighting, and final FX.
This still is adjusted a bit from the final - it has generic souls falling instead of just Dante himself.
The rock stuff was modeled rough in max then done up in zbrush. The hovels were modeled in max as well then I used zbrush to 'destroy' them. Both were decimated and exported out, I think the rock chunks were around 250k poly decimated. No displacements were used. Rendering was in Mental Ray.
thx to Blur Studio, EA, Kevin Margo, etc. for bringing me this sweet project to work on.
Apparently the commercial is the #3 most viewed commercial of all time... at least till next Superbowl?
